UCLH is a world-class institution and top-ranked NHS trust employing around 700 consultants. Many of these are internationally renowned for leading-edge research and care innovation, across all services but especially in the fields of women’s health and the treatment of cancer, cardiac, infection, neurological, gastrointestinal and oral disease.

The state of the art facilities in the EGA and Obstetric Wing at UCLH delivers nearly 6000 babies per year with a high proportion of complex pregnancies resulting from tertiary referral for maternal and fetal complications from within the NC London maternity network (approximately 22,000 deliveries/year). The Academic Maternal Fetal Medicine, Fetal Medicine Unit and Obstetric Service at UCLH has a long history of research to develop fetal therapies, beginning with fetal blood transfusion for Rh alloimmunization. It is leading a number of randomized controlled trials in pregnancy such as on fetal monitoring and statins to treat pre-eclampsia. The Fetal Medicine Unit at UCLH performs 15,000 scans per year, and manages approximately 100 pregnancies complicated by severe early onset FGR per year.
The UCLH Interventional Radiology Department has state-of-the-art facilities and is skilled in interventions during pregnancy, for prevention and treatment of postpartum haemorrhage. The Academic Neonatology Unit and Neonatal Service, operates a level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with full medical intensive care facilities with a particular focus on neurological problems. There is an MRI and neonatal follow up programme. The unit has a track record of randomised trials in perinatal and neonatal medicine such as hypothermia for hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy. We host several longitudinal studies requiring multiple follow up evaluations throughout childhood.
